Setup Your Lookback Method
ACA mandate requires that ALEs offer affordable health benefits to employees who average 130+ hours per month or 1,560 hours per year. By setting a measurement period, GetHired will use the look-back method to review hours worked by part-time and variable hour employees during their measurement period and will alert you if employees work enough hours to become benefit eligible.

Standard Measurement Period (Ongoing Employees)
To set up the standard measurement period for ongoing employees, please:
  • Select your stability period start month. The start month should be the first month medical coverage was offered to the employees (Plain Renewal Month).
  • Select the duration of your administrative period. The admin period is a brief period of the time used to determine if tracked employees met full-time hours or not.

Initial Measurement Period (New Hires)
For ACA purposes, a new hire employee is any employee who has not yet completed one full standard measurment period.
Part-Time and Variable Hour Employees
New hires will begin their measurement period on the first day of the month, coinciding with or following their hire date.
The duration of their measurement and stability period will be 12 months, like Ongoing Measurement periods.
We will average the number of hours worked during their initial measurement period to determine their ability status for the coinciding stability period.
Full-Time Employees
New hires classified as Full-Time employees should be offered coverage no later than the first of their fourth full month of employment.
Affordability Safe Harbors
A health plan is considered affordable for an employee if the employee’s required contribution does not exceed 9.86% of the employee’s household income. The IRS allows employers to use one of three “safe harbors” to determine affordability.
Select the Safe Harbor you would like to use to determine affordability:
Rate of Pay
Based on an employee’s hourly pay rate.
W-2 Wages
Based on an employee’s reported W-2 wages.
Federal Poverty Line (Recommended)
Based on the Federal Poverty Line for an individual.
